welcome To The One Thimble Blog
Today I’d like to introduce you to Leonie from Love Lee Fabrics.
Leonie donated a wonderful Sarah Jane fabric pack to our One Thimble Issue 13 ‘Letters to the Editor’ winner. I absolutely LOVE discovering Aussie fabric stores who stock fabrics by all my favourite designers and I know you will too!
Leonie has some great specials on Jelly Rolls and Layer Cakes at the moment … they’re priced at $50 or less till 31/12/16 AND she has a special offer for One Thimble followers – use the code onethimble for 10% off your purchases through till 31/12/16
Tell me a little about your business – when did you start? What prompted you to go into business?
I started Leonies Longarm Quilting at the beginning of 2015, part of the Quilting business was supplying wadding and widleback fabrics to customers, I have a love of fabrics / quilting so this year I decided to add an Online Fabric store to the business.
What can people expect when they visit Love Lee Fabrics?
I like to stock beautiful quality fabrics, I noticed there were a lot of people online looking for quality fabrics but were in the country or not near fabric stores that wanted fabrics that they knew were a good quality.
I think most people who buy fabric like to feel the fabric, unfortunately that is not always possible so by stocking good quality brand names like Moda, Riley Blake, Tilda, Kaffe Fassett, Michael Miller and several others they can be assured of quality.
I have a range of Moda Basics Bella (solids) and Moda Marbles which is a tonal fabric range.
Tell me what you look for, when choosing the fabrics you stock?
I look for good quality and brand names, I will start to stock some wonderful Australian Fabric ranges (Ella Blue) and Australian themed fabric from Mid December.
I like fabrics that are bright and colourful, fabric that can be used for clothes, bags and quilts. I also stock some “modern” fabrics. I also have a range of wide back fabrics for quilters.
What coming ranges are you excited to stock?
I am looking forward to the “outlander” fabric arriving – it is due any time now, as a long time fan of the books I am looking forward to the digital prints which is a new trend with panels, they look stunning.
One of the other fabric ranges I am looking forward to is “Rainy Day” by Me & My Sister, I am a great fan of Me & My sister fabrics, they are always bright and cheerful and the new ranges can be mix and matched with the old ranges.
Ella blue have a new range coming out in the new year – MINI FUN FAIR BY MELANIE MCNEICE, (from Melly and Me) it is a lovely small print that lends itself beautifully to small toys and beautiful baby clothes / items and quilts.
Do you craft/sew?
I make quilts, as well as long arming customer quilts, I like to make my own, I make some out of new fabric ranges to showcase the fabrics, some are just for fun, but I don’t have enough room for all of the quilts I make.
I like to sew clothes for my grand children to, unfortunately I don’t get as much time as i would like to sew for fun at the moment.
I also quilt for Aussie Heroes and Laundry Bags, donating fabrics / batting.
What’s something people might not know about you?
I resigned my position as a senior registered nurse in a busy emergency department last year to concentrate on my passion for quilting. i have been married for 40 years next year, have 4 Children and 2 grandchildren. I work from home in the beautiful Adelaide Hills. Although I am an online store I am happy for people to come and see and feel the fabric I have, if they contact me we can organise a suitable time for them to come, I look after my grandson 2 days a week so I am not always available.
